Sep 20, 2011

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Bob Corker, R-Tenn., spoke on the Senate floor today following Senator Lamar Alexander’s announcement that he will step down from Senate Republican leadership in January when he completes four years as chairman of the Senate Republican Conference.

Corker directed his comments to Alexander:

“I very much appreciate your service and leadership to the Republican party here in the United States Senate, and I think that what you’ve done in that position is to bring out the best in all of us in the best way that you can,” said Corker.

“I thank you for having the courage to step down from a position that many Republican senators would love to have. I thank you for the way that you serve our country. I thank you for the example that you have been to so many in your public service to our state and our country, and I thank you for being my friend.”
