WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Bob Corker, R-Tenn., today congratulated Volkswagen for receiving the 2012 Motor Trend Car of the Year Award for the made-in-Chattanooga Volkswagen Passat.
“This is the icing on the cake for what has been an outstanding year for the Volkswagen-Chattanooga marriage,” said Corker. “I congratulate all those responsible for making the Chattanooga-made Passat Motor Trend’s Car of the Year. Many of us believed Volkswagen would flourish in Chattanooga, and this is certainly evidence they are.”
As mayor of Chattanooga from 2001-2005, Corker worked with officials and community leaders to develop a 1,200 acre industrial site that is now home to Enterprise South and the multi-billion dollar Volkswagen U.S. production facility. Much of the negotiation that led to Volkswagen choosing Chattanooga occurred around the dining room table of Senator Corker’s North Chattanooga home.
